Phil Harris, BA, FCIP

Nova Scotia Regional Manager

Phil Harris began his insurance career over 30 years ago in Nova Scotia, as an independent adjuster with a well known and respected Sydney firm, D.M. King Adjusters.  In 1978 he joined Co-operators General Insurance as their general adjuster.  During his career with Co-operators, Phil was promoted to Claims Supervisor for Nova Scotia and later accepted the role of Claims Specialist for all lines of insurance marketed by the Co-operators including Auto, Property, Marine, Commercial and Bonds. Phil was employed with the Co-operators until November 2007, when he chose to retire early. Phil stood out amongst his piers at Co-operators as a highly skilled technician.  He excelled at building strong relationships both internally and externally, while effectively solving claims issues.

Phil joined Kernaghan Adjusters as the Nova Scotia Regional Manager in February 2008.  Throughout his career he has worked in Liability/Bodily Injury/Property (Residential and Commercial), Marine and Bonds.  His Bond experience was for the Credit Union Bonding Corporation (a joint venture of the Co-operators and Cumis). Phil’s main strengths are in the areas of Liability / Litigation, Bodily Injury, Property both Residential and Commercial.

Phil is a member of the Nova Scotia Insurance Institute and has been a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Professionals of Canada since 1993.  He holds a level 4 Adjusting License for Nova Scotia.  In addition to preparing and conducting several training seminars for various adjuster groups, Phil has acted as an instructor for nine Insurance Institute of Canada “CIP” courses.

For approximately 8 years, Phil and his wife owned and operated a successful children’s clothing store in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Phil also coached elementary and junior high basketball teams for approximately 6 years.

Phil is a welcome addition to the Kernaghan Adjusters team nationally and a recognized professional for our Nova Scotia operation.
